Accident World was created in 2023, during an early phase of AI-generated photography. The series presents fictional accidents and chaotic scenes while examining the psychology of voyeurism: why are we drawn to images of destruction even when we distrust their claim to truth?
Image models of the period could already produce a convincing photographic surface, yet numerous errors exposed their synthetic origin. Bodies, vehicles, spaces and physical events slip out of shape. These ruptures keep the images suspended between document and fiction.
As an early critique of an AI-generated visual world, Accident World asks what can still be considered real under the conditions of synthetic photography. The work shows how quickly plausibility becomes accepted as truth and how technical images shape perception, memory and collective ideas of reality.
Errors as traces
The visible errors record the technical state of early image models. They disrupt the photographic illusion while revealing how readily a plausible image is accepted as evidence, even though the depicted event never took place.
